Marina Centro Náutico da Bahia (Salvador, Bahia)

Things to do in Bahia

Bahia is a federative unit where the influence of African culture is larger than in any other place in Brazil. With over 7,000 kilometers of coastline, it`s no wonder it is one of the most popular destinations for sea enthusiasts and it becomes virtually impossible to describe all the attractions it holds for the boaters due to the large size of the territory. Beginning a tour in the coastal area, you can delight in levees, dunes, beaches and even stunning mangroves, all the time enjoying a pleasant tropical climate. You can also visit important, vibrant cities such as Salvador, with its world famous Carnival, historic buildings and beautiful beaches. In northern coastline we find a major tourist center in the region of Costa do Sauipe, although the perfect choice for the lovers of ecotourism is the Chapada Diamantina, having breathtaking oceanfront landscape.

Summer starts before December in Bahia, but it has comfortable temperature all year round, so it offers enviable weather to travel more than 35,000 miles of waterways. We shouldn’t we forget the reservoirs (such as dams, ponds and lakes) that add another 9,000 kilometers, making Brazil one of the countries with the greatest potential for nautical tourism, although it is not yet fully exploited. Changes in cabotage laws in 1995 created attractive opportunities for tourism but you can still delight in near pristine areas and landscapes along Brazil’s large coastline. Finally, on the island of Coroa Vermelha you can enjoy one of the most fascinating seascapes.

Boaters will be warned of its presence due to the iconic red lighthouse visible from a distance. Reefs form dark spots under the hull all the way to this island, located 12 kilometers from Nova Viçosa. You should have in mind that the island Coroa Vermehla can be seen completely only when the tide is low. It is an ideal place for scuba diving, with visibility up to 15 meters.
