Attractions à Corse
Southeast of the famous Costa Azul, about 108 nautical miles away, we find this unique tourist destination. Very well connected by sea (western Tuscany and northern Sardinia), the island is divided in two parts: Upper and Southern Corsica. It has beautiful cliffs, that protect from the wind and which you can admire from your boat, as well as the beautiful Mediterranean vegetation, forests and mountainous terrain.
No wonder that nowadays the place is known as "the island of beauty" since ancient Greeks named it Kallisté, meaning "most beautiful." With a thousand kilometers long coastline, almost three hundred consist of fine white sand and form about 200 beaches, making Corsica a favorite destination for many sea enthusiasts.
The climate is Mediterranean, but it is noteworthy that the winters, while being soft, are rainy along the coast (which has, however, an average temperature of 17 degrees Celsius, with an average of 25 in summer). November is the wettest month while from June the area is characterized by the total absence of rain. For lovers of sailing, the wind Maestrale, from the northwest, blows with great velocity, but not so much the Scirocco from the southeast or southwesterly Libeccio.
Among the most important cities we find Calvi in the north, with its splendid Xavier Colonna Port, which is also an important touristic spot of the island, but the majority of tourist locations are concentrated in the south, as Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio. The latter is of one the oldest cities of Corsica and everything in it exudes culture. It also has a fjord, about 100 meters wide, that makes it a natural port.
Corsica is a true paradise filled with beaches, crystal clear waters, small deserted coves and unique seascapes in the Mediterranean, for which it has to thank its thick vegetation in contrast to the dryness of the other islands of this sea. Because of all of this, amongst water sports enthusiasts, it has also become known as „the green island". It’s important to mention that here is also where the Imperial Regattas, a famous sailing event, takes place.
