AZIMUT GRANDE: A fleet of flagships and a major project to fully satisfy the megayacht owner

March 16th, 2010 by andy

AzimutFour new yachts of over 30 metres and a design philosophy entirely at the service of the megayacht owner. With a special equipe of designers who provide services directly at Customer’s home, anywhere in the world. All this is GRANDE, or better, AZIMUT GRANDE. The new family encompasses the entire Azimut Yachts offer in the over 100 feet segment and gives a characteristically Italian name to the approach that Azimut has always taken to customer relations: an approach that has made it the favourite shipyard of Megayacht owners throughout the world since twelve years.

“It is pronounced ‘grande’ – points out Ugo Garassino, Deputy General Manager of Azimut Yachts, – this translates as ‘big’, ‘great’ or ‘huge’, but means much, much more.”

“For once we’re not talking about the flagship of a fleet, but rather a whole fleet of flagships. – continues Garassino – an exceptional portfolio of Megayachts, which by 2013 will have expanded to include four new models. Over the next few months, work on the Azimut 120 SL will be complete, while the 100ft Raised Pilot House, the 110ft Widebody, and last but not least the 126ft with two and a half decks will be launched in the next three years. These projects are destined to leave a lasting impression on yachting history. This is GRANDE.”

All the attention to detail and stylistic excellence of Italian craftsmanship. This is GRANDE.

All the renown of the Azimut Benetti Group: world market leader in so many ways, not least in economic and financial stability. This is GRANDE.

Freedom to use the most advanced Facilities and the best creative and production capacities within state of the art production establishments. The incredible deluxe shipyard in Viareggio, which has always welcomed Azimut owners. More than 40,000 m2 in which expert shipbuilders work alongside qualified craftsmen and which houses an innovative, rich styling lounge, to give the ultimate personal touch to each vessel. This is GRANDE.”

All the listening capacity of a Shipyard which provides a Personal Design Equipe entirely at the service of its customers. This is one of the new elements of the AZIMUT GRANDE project: a special team to transform dreams into fully operational designs. The Personal Design Equipe is happy to meet the owner anywhere in the world, to discuss his needs, discover his wishes and – in no time at all – present him with a proposal that will transform his dreams into reality. This is GRANDE.

The direct relationship with the customer and the ability to customise a vessel to the maximum is one of the great strengths of Azimut’s approach that have always made it stand out, as shown by the experiences of Philip Rinaldi, owner of “Vivere” (116ft Azimut):
“A Megayacht not only represents your tastes, but is also, and most of all, a way to express yourself, to show who you have become over the course of your life. This is why I chose Azimut as a partner in building my latest Megayacht: I wanted the vessel to reflect my personality as far as possible; I wanted it to be perfect, a precise reconstruction of the image I had in mind: or even better. During the months I spent in Viareggio, it was exciting to watch my dream take shape. My blending with Azimut grew day by day, together with my yacht.

AZIMUT GRANDE is a new adventure in entrepreneurial, design and cultural terms. A grand adventure in ideas and investments, that only Azimut could launch, strengthened by its position as international leader in Megayacht production.

“The fascination of authentic Italian craftsmanship, our customers’ faith in our economic and financial stability, the opportunity to customise your own boat: these are the reasons why for the past 12 years Azimut has been the favourite shipyard for Megayacht construction among shipowners all over the world – this is how Paolo Vitelli, President of the Azimut Benetti Group sums it up. – I think that this supremacy, consolidated over so many years, results from the efforts of all the people who work for Azimut Benetti Group. These are people who, on a daily basis, use their passion for their craft to create products which are exceptional and unique, just like our customers, who are the true inspiration for the Megayachts that they create.

4 Yachts and Cargo Accidents

March 6th, 2010 by jmoreno

Hi, after some “extended” vacations I´m back to Portbooker Blog to share with you the best sailing videos around the globe.

To start this year in a “shaky way” I bring you this post with some of the most impresive yachts and cargo accident I found on the web. As usual, feel free to share your comments and videos the community.

(Versión en Español en YachtingHoy.com)

1) “No lo puedo creer” – “I can not believe!”
Accident 100% preventable!. This happend in the port of Campana City in Argentina. The boat is an Altamar 64 made in Argentina. You can hear the cries of the crew warning the crane operator without success. The
cameraman has no choice but to regret repeting “I can not
believe!”….

2) Can we go under the bridge?
Inexplicable accident. The boat wants to go under the drawbridge and I think it lacked a little coordination or maybe you wanted to transform in a convertible ;) . If you pay attention, before the crash shows that the bridge is falling.

Direct Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlnGW9qkD_s

3) How to moor at 20 knots!
This video shows how the boats are moored in a junkyard for recycling. The ship weighs 19,000 tonnes and hits at 20 knots. I would not be so close!

Direct Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ufx5×1ZLmec

4) Please, bring some glasses for the captain!

Inexplicable accidents at the sea!… I hardly believe this could happens!… also a robot may realized they were going to crash!

February 15th, 2010 by andy

No iba a verse ningún espectáculo.

—————————

Yesterday finished the 33rd edition of the America’s Cup Sailing in victory for the challenging BMW-ORACLE. Two races were enough to decide who would be the new owner of the Hundred Guineas Cup. Although one could say that one test was enough to make that clear. Following the postponement of Monday and Wednesday and waiting a few hours on Friday, the day raised the warning signal of the first test. It seemed that we were going to attend an exciting duel between the ships faster and with better technology, but ultimately did not. The more than 15 minutes apart between BMW Oracle and Alinghi in the first test cheered some and disappoint many. There would be no show. The defiant had made clear its so overwhelming advantage. He even allowed the luxury of lowering the gennaker, and still ran and girded more, so that little or nothing could make Alinghi.

After several years of preparation and legal battle, the yachtsmen sailing we wanted to see sailing and more than that “we saw a wing”. An amazing feat of engineering, according to the official specifications for the BMW-ORACLE (see specifications) consists of more than 250 sensors that send information on the development and wind speed, 9 flaps were bound to be regulated independently to optimize the development of the sail, 9-shaped flap hinges and hydraulic systems to control the wing. It is certain that the idea is that success, at the level of engineering, but we feel very unfortunate for the sport.

What would we do if we race against a ship without jib which is able to run and bind more than ours? I, Personally, accept defeat and nothing else. Against so much technology anyone can not compete.

What has been the Mainsail trimmer? This central figure in charge of, with its good work and experience as greatest instrument, optimize the performance of the wing. The BMW-ORACLE, did not need it, had a computer that gave him the data and could trim the sail as you like at each point and without much effort or merit than the engineer who designed it.

Where are the limits of technology? If we look for the fastest boat, no doubt, the BMW-ORACLE has found it. If we want to know who’s the best, I still do not know. To see what we saw we could eliminate the crews and vessels from a control room. And I think that this is not or should not be, the objective of the Copa America. Surely those who in 1851 gave rise to this competition in order to find the best boat for the owner of the 100 Guineas Cup, are now turning over in their graves after seeing that this competition has degenerated in a Sailing principle and would not know right now that qualify. It is true that one must go innovating and bringing new developments but, like everything else, must be limited in this edition, I believe, has been crossed.

We hope to serve as a lesson and a note for future editions. The apasicionados of the sport want to see the best sailors compete in the best boats and sailors not big on boats “automated”.
