The Blue Flag Programme 2009-2010

The International Blue Flag Jury had its second annual meeting on September 22, 2009 to decide on the Blue Flag candidates from the Southern Hemisphere for the 2009/2010 season.

The International Jury decided to award the Blue Flag to 73 beaches and 10 marinas in Bahamas, Brazil, Dominican Republic, French Departments and Territories, Jamaica, New Zealand, Puerto Rico and South Africa. 3 beaches in Aruba. In addition, two new countries were welcomed and their sites awarded the Pilot Certificates: one beach and one marina in Jordan and two beaches and one marina in Sint Maarten. The Blue Flag marina candidates were evaluated in detail to ensure compliance with the criteria concerning the hazardous waste facilities at the marina, the presence of a map indicating all the required facilities, as well as environmental education activities offered by the marina. Also evaluated this year were the composition of the national juries, the common information boards and the outcome of control visits in 2008/2009 as well as the planning of control visits for 2009/2010.

The International Jury is composed of representatives from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), International Lifesaving Federation (ILS), the World Conservation Union (IUCN), an international environmental education expert, the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) and the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

At the next International Jury meeting in April 2010 the outcome of the evaluation of Blue Flag candidate beaches and marinas from the Northern Hemisphere will be presented. The Blue Flag programme is looking forward to working with new countries such as FYR Macedonia, Jordan, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Sint Maarten, Turks and Caicos Islands, as well as Trinidad and Tobago that have all shown interest in the programme.

La Asociación de Clubes Náuticos de la provincia acumula 7 de las 12 banderas azules de la Comunitat

La Asociación de Clubes Náuticos de la provincia de Alicante-Costa Blanca (ACNPACB) acumula siete de las 12 banderas azules que el jurado internacional de la Asociación de Educación Ambiental y de Consumidor y la Fundación para la educación Ambiental (ADEAC-FEE) ha otorgado este año a determinadas instalaciones que desarrollan su actividad dentro de la Comunitat Valenciana, según informaron hoy en un comunicado fuentes de la asociación náutica.

Los miembros que pertenecen a esta entidad y que fueron galardonados con este reconocimiento son los Clubs Náuticos Les Basetes de Benissa, Calpe, Altea, la Vila Joiosa, El Campello, Santa Pola y Torrevieja.

Al respecto, el presidente de la ACNPACB, Francisco Navarro, indicó que “estamos muy orgullosos de que nuestra asociación pueda presumir una vez más de ser la entidad de la Comunidad Valenciana que cuenta con el mayor de clubes náuticos como socios que han sido galardonados con una bandera azul este año”.

De esta forma, de los 78 puertos deportivos que han recibido banderas azules en España casi un 9 por ciento de ellas corresponde a clubes náuticos que son miembros de la Asociación de Clubes Náuticos de la Provincia de Alicante. A estos datos se suman las 493 banderas azules para playas españolas entregadas, que mantiene a la cabeza a nuestro país dentro del hemisferio norte con un total de 571 banderas azules, entre playas y puertos deportivos.

El presidente de la entidad afirmó que “estos datos dan buena cuenta de la calidad en la gestión medioambiental que en estos momentos cumplen los clubes náuticos alicantinos”. En relación a la entrega de banderas, Navarro señaló que “los clubes náuticos hoy en día son un valor añadido que complementan y mejoran considerablemente la oferta turística de cualquier destino”.
